ECF: Blue & gold yarn

Blue & gold yarn

Football season is approaching, and while reading blogs, I happened upon Illusion Yarns who had a beautifully dyed merino/alpaca blend in blue and gold. I immediately bought 2 skeins for a scarf to wear to the games.

However, when she went to send them, she found she had only one, so she emailed me and asked if I wanted one skein, or she offered to dye me similar skeins in 100% merino (she couldn't get the merino/alpaca anymore). So I requested the merino, and here it is! The blue is a bit deeper and less turqoise in real life.

2 x 4oz skeins/193 yds, 100% merino wool, worsted weight. MMmmmm...I'm planning to swatch several different scarves to see which I like best:

  • Argosy

  • Sand River (just bought it this morning)

  • Palindrome - I liked the Irish Hiking Scarf, but Palindrome is similar but reversible!

  • Steam (pdf), another reversible cable scarf.

What would YOU do?

I would do the Palindrome (great name!). In fact, I am going to do the Palindrome. I did a similar reversible cable scarf this spring without the ridge between the cables, but I am always ready for a variation on a theme.

Blue and gold my kids' high school colours (same alma mater as me!) but they were never scarf people. Your merino looks beautiful!

I totally vote for Steam. I knit it a couple of months ago, and it was an easy knit with great results. It also makes a very "cushy" scarf.

Those are all nice scarves. Thanks especially for the links to Palindrome and Steam. I've saved those patterns.

Still, I think Sand River will show off your yarn the best.

For some reason, argosy is grabbing me, even though I'm usually more of a cable lover. It won't be as cozy as a cable scarf, but it looks funky.

Your choice.

I like Argosy and Palindrome myself.

Hope to be able to meet you at the knitting group tomorrow!!
